I'm Chloe Adams, a beginner aquarium expert and writer for Stardexa with more than 11 years of experience in the field of fishkeeping. As many beginners find aquariums hard to comprehend, I've kept learning, practicing, and sharing all the basic information from choosing the right aquarium to cycling it, filtering it, feeding the fish, and taking care of water quality as well as maintaining it regularly. My aim is to ensure each novice fishkeeper knows how to turn his/her aquarium into a pleasant and healthy habitat for fish.

I am Chloe Adams, and for the last 11 years, aquariums have been a valuable part of my experience and knowledge. Throughout this period I have gained the understanding of the basics of setting up an aquarium along with all the minor details that create a stable environment for fish.
Aquarium keeping seems easy from the outside. You take a tank, fill it with water, and place some fish. However, when you start doing this, the reality strikes, and you discover that fishkeeping is much more complicated. Tank size, water condition, filtration, cycling, feeding, compatibility, stocking, cleaning, and maintenance all affect the fishkeeping process.
This ability to learn something new is one of the main reasons I love writing about aquariums now.
During those years I got especially interested in the questions beginners ask when they set up their first aquarium. Most beginner aquarists are exposed to a big amount of information at once, and technical language may turn the interest into frustration, making an easy hobby appear complicated.
I try to make this information easier without missing important details.
As a fishkeeping author at Stardexa, I develop easy-to-read and insightful guides for the beginners, which can help them in making informed decisions about their aquariums.
My target audience is mainly those who wish to set up their first tanks, look for appropriate fish for an aquarium, want to become acquainted with different aquarium equipment, or need to learn about aquarium maintenance in order to keep their tanks healthy and stable.
The topics I write about include starter tank setup, freshwater fishkeeping, cycling of an aquarium, aquarium filtration, fish feeding, aquarium maintenance, fish, and tank equipment, as well as the qualities of good water in an aquarium.
Rather than assuming that my readers have a good understanding of aquarium terminology, I try to explain each topic from scratch. For instance, when covering the topic of cycling, I aim to inform a novice fishkeeper what one should know before proceeding to other topics. When I am writing about filters, my emphasis is put not only on the varieties available but also on what a beginner should take into account before choosing a filter.
The same principle applies throughout my work: explain the subject clearly, give readers useful context, and help them understand what to do next.
One of my primary ambitions is to support novices in steering clear of avoidable aquarist blunders.
As someone new to aquariums, it is simple to only be concerned with the appearance of tanks without also understanding how aquariums work as a whole. Newcomers often stumble across contradictory recommendations on how to set up tanks, which fish to buy, feeding plans, how to filter water, cycling, stocking, and cleaning.
Therefore, I view a hands-on, sequential approach as better.
I write keeping in mind the questions new fishkeepers tend to ask: Which tank size is good for beginners? What equipment do I need? How does cycling in aquariums work? Which fish are best for novice fishkeepers? How much food do my fish require? How frequently should I maintain my aquarium? What water parameters should I check? How do I spot problems before they grow bigger?
Making sure that the answers to such questions are clear could save novices a lot of confusion during their first months of being fishkeepers.
I think that understanding the reasons behind something is of benefit in itself, more than simply following instructions because one has been ordered to do so. When the reasons behind the aquarium care are clear, readers will be able to better monitor their own tanks and to make sound decisions without having to depend on one particular rule that is suitable for all situations.
The way that I write and the aquarium knowledge that I possess really emphasizes the topics that are crucial for successful fishkeeping for beginners.
Among such topics are the selection and installation of the first aquarium, equipment, aquarium filters, aquarium cycling, feeding routines, water conditions, types of fish to be researched, compatibility of fish with each other, aquarium maintenance, and common mistakes of beginners.
I also write on the subject of beginner-friendly fish and the factors to consider when it comes to choosing an aquarium species. I want readers to focus on more than just the appeal of fish and consider elements like the needs and behavior of the fish, its compatibility and size as well as the necessary aquarium setup and the level of care.
All my experience proves that rushing through the process of setting up an aquarium can hardly bring any value. Successful fishkeeping is built on observation, patience, research, and understanding of the animals that are being taken care of.
Being in the aquarium keeping area for over 11 years, I am still convinced that good advice must always be clear to the user.
I don’t want my readers to finish reading the article having more questions than they did before checking out my text. My goal is to clarify topics that can seem very complicated in a simple language that can be understood by a first-time aquarium owner.
I do not portray fishkeeping as a hobby where a single solution is good enough for every aquarium. The size of the tank, type of fish, type of equipment used, level of fish stocking, the quality of water, and the context may be relevant for the proper solution.
That is why I encourage readers to learn about their own aquarium instead of simply copying another person’s aquarium.
Research is equally important. Before one gets a fish or makes a major change in the aquarium, fishkeepers should research the needs of that particular type of fish or setup. This small effort will save a lot of trouble for a beginner.
I remember how much one needs to learn and understand when starting with aquariums; therefore, educating beginners about fishkeeping remains one of my top priorities.
Upon proper planning, aquariums can be very interesting to watch and interesting to maintain. However, beginners should not have to learn everything through making mistakes that are unnecessary.
That is why I use my texts at Stardexa to make aquarium science more accessible to comprehend and to utilize.
When one is studying how to set up a fish tank for the first time, what fish are best for novices, how the nitrogen cycle works, what filtration systems to choose, how to feed and take care of one’s fish, etc., my aim is to help him or her complete every step successfully.
Having had my fish-related experience for over 11 years now, I keep on observing and learning how to develop my messages in aquaristics further. Aquariums are living ecosystems, and there is always something to learn.
This continuous process of learning is also what brings me joy in working on this subject.
If my guides enable the readers to understand more about aquariums, avoid common mistakes, and take proper decisions in the area of fishkeeping, then my work at Stardexa is successful.
